is presented to
Major Ronald D. Hackett
The 1998 General James Ferguson Engineering Award is presented to Major Ronald D. Hackett, Electrical Engineer, Directed Energy Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. From 1 January 1998 through 31 December 1998, Major Hackett assembled and directed a team that designed, built and demonstrated the United States Air Force's first deployable high power microwave (HPM) weapon system. The HPM Information Warfare Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration was developed in only a thirteen-month period. The efforts of Major Hackett and his team will revolutionize operational concepts and provide a whole new range of options for the warfighter when faced with a non-lethal operational requirement ensuring optimal performance under non-optimal conditions. The accomplishments of Major Ronald D. Hackett reflect great credit upon himself, the Air Force Materiel Command, and the United States Air Force.
Retired General James Ferguson sponsors the General James Ferguson engineering award. General Ferguson was the commander of Air Force Systems Command from September 1966 to August 1970.
